Coaching and Mentoring | Why I love a FAT PUG

mentoring

I love dogs. Well, most dogs. I don't love my neighbor's dogs. They're totally untrained, they bark a lot and one of them has barked for 30-60 minutes at a time on several occasions these past few weeks. And, I'm not a huge fan of dachshunds anyway. But I digress. I love most dogs, especially cuddly, fluffy, playful dogs. Some dogs just have incredible personalities and get more love than others from humans.

Take pugs, for example. Pug owners, of which I am not, are fiercely in love with their pugs. That's because pugs have great personalities. The drawback, if you are allergic to dog dander like I am, is that they have a lot of dog dander, shed little fibrous hairs on all your furniture, and snore so loud they will wake you out of a dead sleep unless you snore louder! A snoring dog doesn't work for me.

Coaching and Mentoring the Clients

But why I love a FAT PUG because pugs are playful, clever, attentive, charming and sociable. And, it's an acronym of what I do for my clients.

Focusing

Focusing is the first thing I focus my coaching clients on. I do this by finding out what their vision is, where they want to be in the future. We explore and develop together both S.M.A.R.T. and D.U.M.B. goals. That is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Really Desired, Time dated) and DUMB (Dreamy, Unrealistic, Motivating and Bold) goals

Accountability

Accountability is what I do to help hold my clients responsible for the goals they desire in the above focusing process. Here's where I get my clients to pay attention to the scoreboard i.e., individual goals, company goals, metrics, etc.

Troubleshooting and mentoring

Troubleshooting and mentoring is what I do with all my clients in almost all our meetings. Finding out what's working and not working and coming up with proactive solutions to solve their most nagging and complex problems is why clients hire me.

Said in other words…

Problem-solver is always how I've seen myself. As a professional consultant I get paid well to solve people's toughest problems.

Understanding is how I see myself. I use compassion, empathy, active listening, and …

Guiding is my role. Mentoring my clients to where they want to go; guiding them through the everyday challenges that come up and encouraging them to lead, manage and live at a more peak level.
